In the planning of our beach houses we asked ourselves firstly why Rakhine people themselves rarely build directly along the beach front line. During the tourist season the weather is most pleasing with nothing but lovely sea breezes. Well, come here during the rainy season and you will know better! Rakhine villages make use of the natural storm protection offered by the coconut trees growing between them and the sea. These groves act as efficient windbreakers and offer shelter from extreme storms. Taking this into account, our beach houses had to be built stoutly to safely make it form one season to the next.
