Building Start

Building Start

The core of our project is to provide authentic ethnic living with added comfort. Our guesthouses and rooms are thus built from recycled, renovated, reassembled old Rakhine houses. All building is done manually and it all starts with erecting the first pole. That first pole is blessed with “gold-water” (putting someone’s gold ring into a cup of water) and adorned with banana, flowers, greenery and a money-garland. Then, the volunteers lift the first pole and are offered Coconut rice for breakfast.

Our staff is ready to go for the “first pole” ceremony.

In the early morning the volunteer villagers are digging the holes for pole placement.Proudly presenting a handmade winch to lift up the heavy wooden poles.

Climbing up a Coconut tree…

…then the winch is fixed right on top.

The selected first pole is moved in place…

…and blessed with offerings.

Ready to go?

From horizontal to vertical.Half way there!

Breakfast…

…and relieved that it really works. Our 19 men team after all poles for the first house have been erected. The stunning end result of today.
