Dear Friends of Arakan Nature Lodge
I am excited to share with you some insights into our brand new 6KwP centralised solar system and how it was set-up to start its solar yield. It is making us fit to run green 24h/day as our eco lodge project is going into its final stage. A narrative blog post depicting our search for a financially feasible yet good-sized system, it also shows who was involved. See how funny we all looked when we switched on the light for a first time: Let there be light!
Secondly, our village's carpenter team, after long meditations over rickety mock-ups, after discussions and try-outs, succeeded in building an amazing structure called Restaurant Roof. It now stands at its befitting location with great views over Zikhone beach and the Bay of Bengal. See our process - in pictures: A roof has landed
This year was named the Year of Sustainable Tourism by United Nations. Arakan Nature Lodge project was invited to take part in a panel discussion about the challenges of practising sustainability in hotels here in Myanmar. This was part of the first ever Global Sustainable Tourism Council GSTC conference and workshop which was held here in March. I was really happy to see Switzerland as one of the driving forces behind this remarkable event. Moreover, the opening speech of our ambassador, H.E. Mr Paul Seger, was a true inspiration to all of us committed to a more sustainable approach to tourism and hospitality.
With just a few months to go till the opening of our Eco Lodge on this marvellous beach, we'll be busy throughout the greyest days of this rainy season. We are confident we’ll be ready for you to stay with us from October 1st. As this date is nearing and with monsoon surprises still in between, please do inquire directly with us how it is all going. Saying it all: Some are quite comfortable here already!
